Back Home

We arrived in Portland around noon yesterday. Our flight from Stuttgart to Amsterdam left at 6:55 am, which meant getting up around 4:00 (Yikes!). Because of our multitude of suitcases and baby gear, we had to get a cab to help transport our luggage to the airport, in addition to my mom's car. Saying goodbye to my mom was especially hard! She loved spending time with Melina and it is always harder for the person who stays behind. I know what a shock it is to get home from the airport and find the apartment all of a sudden so empty.
We were lucky again and had an empty seat between ours for the transatlantic flight. Unfortunately, Melina slept only a little over an hour after getting up at 4:45 am and arriving at our house 17 hours later. I'm so glad I didn't do this trip by myself and Dave and I could take turns keeping Melina happy (or at least from crying). The flight to Europe really is much easier with a child because it's an overnight flight and they sleep at least some of the time.
We got home and were excited to see some red tomatoes and eggplants in our vegetable beds. Dave picked up Haley who seems happy to be back home too. After struggling for quite a while, Melina finally fell asleep and took a nap. This was our first time traveling to Germany from the West coast and the added 3-hour time difference makes a big difference. We arrived at 1:30 pm local time and were struggling to stay awake until 8 pm.
