Nike and I really enjoyed our vegetable garden in Knoxville (and Austin before that). Since we are renting this year, we've decided to go for container gardening this spring. I've got lots of herbs sprouting indoors which I hope to transplant and move to the small deck off of our kitchen in a couple of weeks. We've also got some different lettuce mixes started outside so we can enjoy fresh salads. I've pulled some of our larger planters out and will soon start searching for tomato transplants. Oregon is a little cooler in the summer than East Tennessee, so a little research is needed to find the right varieties.
I'd like to also grow some different vegetables than in the past that are more native to Oregon. From our travels in the area it appears Oregon is famous for fruits and berries, but I'm not sure yet what types of vegetables are best suited to the climate. Gardening is always the most fun in the spring when the sun is starting to warm the soil and summer weeds are too far in the future to worry about.
