Blackeyed Peas

On New Year's Day, we ate blackeyed peas for good luck (they were not that easy to find here in the NW). One day later, Dave discovered half an inch of standing water in the basement, where we had stored all those boxes that we didn't unpack - our landlord had assured us that the basement is dry. So much for good luck! Yesterday, Dave spent most of the day unpacking and repacking the wet boxes. Luckily, only 10 got wet and only a few things were damaged. Dave's take on the situation: it could've been much worse. So maybe the blackeyed peas did help after all. There's a perfect German saying for these situations: "Glueck im Unglueck" (good luck in bad luck).

oh, lord, I've been there - I know exactly how that feels. Then again, it's unusual rain/flooding there, right? so maybe it won't happen again (only happened once to me)
