Yesterday was Melina's 2-month birthday, which was marked with a visit to the pediatrician. She got 4 vaccines, 3 of them as shots in her thighs. She screamed so hard I started to cry. She got so upset that she vomited over my shoulder when I was holding to comfort her. I had vomit all over the back of my shirt and a lot landed on the floor as well. After she calmed down, Melina slept while my mom and I bought groceries for Thanksgiving. Right before dinner, however, she all of a sudden started screaming again. The doctor had warned us that some babies develop a light fever, get sore at the injection site and are fussy for up to 3 days after the vaccinations. Dave then pushed her around the house in her stroller, which, together with some infant Tylenol, did the trick. Today, she seems fine. Nothing prepares you for how emotional you get when your baby is in pain. I already dread the next doctor's visit in 2 months.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we're invited to a friend's house- let's hope Melina is in a good mood. I'm excited to cook some dishes to take tomorrow. We'll make four corn pie, butternut squash casserole with sage and blue cheese, cranberry relish and maybe a sweet onion tart. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!!

And unfortunately, it's gotten worse for us. Yesterday Magda had a meltdown getting the flumist vaccine, not even the shot. She was fine and cheerful up to the moment of getting the vaccine and then she freaked out. At least when they are little it's easier to hold them down and they don't know what's coming. Good luck!
So what's the four corn pie?
