It has been a long journey of about 3 months, almost Kafkaeque at times. No, we can't move in yet but we're pretty close. We just signed all the paperwork and are now waiting for the actual closing. Here on the left coast, they do things a bit differently in real estate: after the seller and buyer sign all the paperwork, it needs to get registered with the county first before you get the keys. Hopefully, we'll get the keys on Tuesday. Hey, what's another couple of days after this odyssey, right? Gives us more time to pack.
On a totally different topic: I get another chance to make a little extra money. The lawyer for an immigrant who got into legal trouble needs somebody to assess his English proficiency. He contacted our department and the head recommended me because I teach our course on testing and assessment. I won't be an expert witness in court (I wouldn't feel qualified for that) but the lawyer and psychiatrist want to use my assessment in making their case. Should be interesting and we can definitely use the money given all the upcoming expenses of the move and the baby.
