SATURDAY
- Checked out Uwajimaya, an Asian supermarket chain, and discovered a whole new world of food. They had a lot of stuff we had either never heard of before or where we couldn't read the labels because they were not in English. Our bounty: mango peach tofu, shrimp flavored chips, veggie croquettes and cream puffs. We had the veggie croquettes as an appetizer for dinner and they are great!
- Had BLTs for lunch, with home-grown tomatoes. Tomatoes often don't do well in Oregon because they don't get enough heat. But I guess that heat wave did the trick. We have 2 tomato plants in containers on our balcony with plenty of red fruit on them, along with herbs.
- Went to Multnomah Days, a one-day festival in Multnomah Village, the area we live in. Oddly enough, the name of the festival is plural although it only lasts one day. I was excited to get some pottery from the community center, where they offer art classes (that's what Dave is carrying in the picture). We took Haley along, her first outing to such an event, and she did pretty well. Dave had her on the leash and she worried every now and then about losing me in the crowd.
SUNDAY
- Bought a fridge for the new house. The options are really overwhelming: side-by-side or top fridge/bottom freezer? French door? In-door water dispenser? We finally made up our mind and were excited to use our 10% off coupon, get $50 cash back from the Energy Trust and find out that we'll get an Oregon tax credit too.
- Saw "Julie & Julia" - nice movie for foodies. Dave remembers watching Julia Child on PBS as a kid. In Germany, nobody knows Julia Child, of course, so I have to find some clips on YouTube.
