Live from Good Sam

I'm blogging live from the Good Samaritan Hospital Maternity ward while Nike sleeps. We've had a very eventful 36 hours. Tuesday night we decided to go out to eat and use a restaurant coupon from a realtor before the baby comes (due Saturday). Just in time on that decision - as Nike started having mild contractions during dinner. Unfortunately as we started to settle down for bed the contractions became stronger and more painful, so there was no hope of sleep on Tuesday night.

By Wednesday morning the contractions were every 6 minutes or so, so we were getting ready to head to the hospital when something unexpected happened - they slowed down! Very frustrating for Nike as they were still very strong and painful, but the frequency was moving around from 7 minutes up to 30 minutes. We had a planned appt. with the doctor Wednesday afternoon, so we went to that and she decided to go ahead and send us to the maternity ward. By that time, Nike hadn't slept in 34 hours and was really tired and frustrated. After a couple of hours here, we decided to go with the epidural since getting Nike some rest was the number one recommendation. Things are much better now!!

Current status - about 8-9 centimeters and we've both got some rest. The on-call doctor thinks we'll be at the pushing stage in about an hour. At that time we're going to back off on the strength of the epidural so that Nike can have enough feeling to avoid putting too much stress on her previously injured disc. More to come...
