Time to enjoy our edible souvenirs

We had edible souvenirs from our last two weekend trips that we enjoyed last night: a bottle of Rogue's Chipotle Ale (trip to the coast) and fresh prunes (fruit loop trip), which I used to make a German style plum cake with streusels.
Verdict: I liked the beer with its spicy aftertaste (I love chipotle anything) but Dave wasn't too keen on it: "I prefer a hops aftertaste!". The cake was yummy although the streusels were a bit too small - I prefer crunchy big streusels. When baking it, we discovered that our stove only has one heating element in the bottom, which makes it impossible to brown the top (essential for crunchy streusels). It's really weird: to broil, we had to put it in the bottom drawer. I try not to think too much about the things that annoy me about this house or I'll start crying: I miss our beautiful house in Knoxville, AND OUR FRIENDS!

The chipotle beer sounds fascinating and so does pflaume kuchen. (is that right? I seem to be losing my food vocabulary!). We're having a proper fall here right now, cool, crisp, sunny. We may even go camping this weekend. But I really wish we had access to interesting beer.
