The Culinary Exploration Continues...

Yestday, Dave and I checked out another vegetarian restaurant. Just like Vita Cafe, we found it in the dining guide of the Vangard student paper. The Blossoming Lotus Cafe is in the Pearl District, a hip section near downtown Portland where a lot of lofts and warehouses were turned into upscale condos, galleries, bars and shops. The Blossoming Lotus Cafe is in a yoga studio and serves all vegan organic food. We were lucky to get a table right away because it's tiny. But the food would have been worth the wait! We couldn't say no to the daily special: shepard's pie with lentils, tempeh and smashed potatoes. It came with sundried tomato patee as an appetizer that was served with these delicious crackers that were full of seeds. We also ordered the BBQ tempeh sandwich. The Blossoming Lotus Cafe will definitely go on our list of favorite restaurants. I have to try their vegan soft serve icecream when I'm not so full and they have a better flavor (Hibiscus didn't sound very tempting).
Next, we might explore the Original Pancake House, which was recommended to me by a colleague. They have restaurants in many states now but the original Original Pancake House is close to where we live. The apple pancake looks delicious!

I just wish you could come to our house for dinner. Paul and I were talking about starting a food swap group (where a few times a month you cook enough of something: bread, casserole, salad, whatever the group decides) to feed another family or two and the other families do the same at different times. The first people we thought of were you and Dave. Too bad we can do it by mail! Have a great weekend.

Sounds like Portland is worth visiting for the food alone!
