We got more snow last night and spent a few hours this morning without electricity. There are currently about 55,000 households without power. We're lucky that it's back on, especially since our house seems to have zero insulation. This is the worst snow storm in the Portland area in 40 years - welcome to Portland! We've already hit several superlatives relating to our move: the highest gas prices in years, the worst economy, and now the worst winter weather.
We had four guests for our Cookie Party yesterday, the smallest ever (hey, another superlative). All of them were neighbors, none of my colleagues could make it because they live too far away to walk here. It's ironic that this is actually the perfect weather for Gluehwein...
We're beginning to suffer from a mild form of cabin fever. My mom arrived almost a week ago and hasn't seen much of Portland yet, except the mall, grocery store, a brew pub and the pancake place. By next weekend, it's supposed to be in the 40s but we might not make it to the grocery store before Christmas to buy ingredients for a festive meal.

Give your Mom a big hug from us, Nike!!
Yikes! My sister in New Hampshire is also snowed in and were out of power for nearly a week. What a winter! I'm staying put here in Tennessee, no northern Indiana cold for me.
wow, what a Christmas! We're home safely from KY and settling in to clean house and prepare for Santa today and an open house tomorrow. No snow here but Louisville was very cold and icy. Hopefully the new year will be a bit more welcoming for your mom!
Merry Christmas!
