Going through your belongings to box them up for a move can trigger a variety of emotions and thoughts, such as:
"What was I thinking!?"
That was triggered by the red suede hat, never worn of course. The only explanation for that purchase is a momentary lapse of reason.
Heart Warming
I discovered printouts of e-mails Dave and I exchanged when we had just started dating, along with the Valentine's Day card where he asked me to move in with him. Fond memories.
"I'll wear it to work out or work in the garden"
I don't think I'm a packrat but I need to just throw away old T-shirts etc. I simply can't work out that much to justify keeping them.
Sad Memories
And then there are things that make you sad, like the letter Lars wrote to all his friends shortly before he died of cancer. And when I was cleaning up my Outlook address book, updating addresses and deleting information for people I'm no longer in contact with, I came across the entry for my grandmother, who died earlier this year. It was very difficult to delete her address and phone number, another reminder that she's no longer with us.
